| How Detailed Do My Plans Need To Be? |
This question arises frequently as architects’ and designers’ fees and billings increase with the amount of detail and complexity of the plan. The more information we have helps in several ways: it enables us to give more accurate cost estimates, gives us a clearer image of final look, and limits any delays in working out details. In general, the more information we have, the more smoothly information comes together. |

| How Does Weather Affect The Building Process? |
Weather greatly affects your building timeline. A two-month project in the dry summer months could easily double to four months in the wet or snowy winter. Often, it’s not just the days it actually precipitates, but the number of days it takes for the area to dry out so we can get back to work. Temperatures play a large role as well. If it’s extremely cold, then we can’t do any mortar, grout, or concrete work. The air lines in compressors freeze up, and the ground fails to dry out for weeks. Also, weather often dictates how much disturbance is done to the site or surroundings. |

| What Do I Need To Know About Designing and Building an Outdoor Living Space? |
You should start with a list of the main goals you want to achieve, including any wish-list items. You should also have an idea of a basic budget. Most larger projects require drawings to keep everyone on the same page, but smaller projects might not need a plan in place. With your ideas in hand, you’re ready to call Lowery Custom Construction! |
| What Permits, Permissions, and Inspections Do I Need To Worry About? |
Most projects involve getting a permit. As your licensed contractors, we will be responsible for obtaining any permits needed. There will be certain phases of each project that will need to be inspected, so we will call in and line up all inspections. You will need to check with local ordinances to make sure your project is in compliance. If you are in a HOA, make sure you have their approval if necessary. If you are in a historic district, you will need to have the Historic Commission check your plans. Also, it is always a good idea to discuss with surrounding neighbors what your plans are and what they should expect. Happy neighbors are the best neighbors. Sometimes you may need their permission to gain access to your project through their property. |
